Cultural Tour and Evening of Music in Celebration of Muharraq as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2018
Following the inauguration of festive events celebrating Muharraq as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the Arab region 2018, in recognition of its rich culture, heritage and historical importance to the Gulf region as a political, trading and economic center, the Lebanese diva, Jahida Wehbe, performed a mesmerizing concert ( Tunes from Andalusia, Muwashat) at the National theater on 29 January 2018. The event was attended by Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altuwaijri, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, Ministers of culture in Arab and Islamic countries, officials and culture lovers.
This comes part of BACA’s strategy to welcome Bahrain’s guests during the celebrations of Muharraq as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 staged by Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA). The tour started by a visit to Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Centre for Culture & Research and other pertaining historical houses, followed by a Luncheon in honor of the official guests, ministers and dignitaries visiting Bahrain, set at on Pearling Path open space location. Then, a visit to Qala’at al Bahrain Fort site was organized to discover the different historical periods of Bahrain’s history through an audiovisual presentation ( Light & Sound). The presentation gave a concise history of the first Bahraini archaeological Qala’at Al-Bahrain Site, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
The official guests’ delegation also visited the current exhibitions hosted by Bahrain National Museum, such as “Al-Fann: Art from the Islamic Civilization from The al-Sabah Collection”, property of Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah, Kuwait, and “Between Muharraq and Seville: A Bolza-Bu Saad Dialogue” Exhibition, featuring a collaboration between Bahraini artist Ebrahim Bu Saad and Orientalist artist based Elisabeth Bolza in Spain. Exploring the beauty of Arabic calligraphy and the mystery of the Arabic language, modern and classic arts, the collaboration between Bahraini artist Ebrahim Bu -Saad and Orientalist artist based in Spain Elisabeth Bolza creates an artistic dialogue that connects East and West through a series of collage works about the city of Muharraq.
