Dar al Muharraq hosted on 24 November 2018, an amazing evening of music event performed by Ismail Dawwas Folk Music Band. The Fjiri music art echoed throughout the alleyways of time and place in Muharraq and elsewhere. Indeed, the performance highlighted the various styles of the uniquely Bahraini Fujairi tradition, a mystical genre whose roots go back to Bahrain’s world-famous pearling heritage. The evening was part of the celebrations of Muharraq as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2018,
Lovers of genuine traditional Bahraini music enjoyed listening to the different variations of this traditional art such as Bahri, Hadadi, and Makhloufi. The audience present at Dar al Muharraq also enjoyed a distinguished musical performance, reminding them of the seafaring and pearling traditions of the local Fjiri genre, which local legends say was learned by humans through an encounter with mysterious supernatural forces. These evenings of music enhanced Dar al Muharraq’s efforts to promote the intangible heritage of Muharraq, given its location as an open museum along the 3.5 km Pearling Path to be finished in 2018, the year Muharraq will be celebrated as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018.
Worth to mention that Dar Al Muharraq was inaugurated on 2016 during Spring of culture Festival, whereby the (Building 1068, Road 1617, Block 216 Muharraq), comprises an extension on a neighboring plot that accommodates workshop and training areas. The three-storey building acts as a training and research centre for traditional folk music and will enhance the intangible heritage of Muharraq.
