Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities has authorized and issued a Tender with PA Ref Number: 13-2018 to provide contracting services to build a Naseej factory on the site of the current remaining workshops in Bani Jamrah. Construction companies are requested now to present their bids to be monitored and reviewed by BACA’s Internal Tender Enquiry & Evaluation Committee. The latter will make sure the bid To provide meets the required standards, competitive prices in a manner that meets current legislation requirements, is in accordance with the resolutions of the Board of Governors, and promotes free and open competition for all interested suppliers. the tender is limited to Grade E and above MOW pre-qualified contractors. Closing Date is Sunday, 14 October 2018.
“Bani Jamra Textile Factory”, or the “Naseej Factory” aims at reviving the traditional textile weaving crafts that are native to the village of Bani Jamrah in Bahrain, and have been passed on from generation to generation for over 3000 years. The factory will be built at the heart of the village, taking the shape of“ barasti “ ( palm tree branches) theme, so that once completed, it will look like a roofed-structure providing the required shade for spinning and weaving. The new factory structure will be harmony with the traditional and popular characteristics of this historical handicraft.
The factory will also include sections to make textiles and other for training and apprenticeship, and will be accommodated with recreational and necessary facilities, such as cafeteria, textile handicraft shop for weavers to sell their products. The project is a pioneer endeavor given that most managers and staff are village people and craftsmen themselves.
