H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities received, on 25 September 2018, the Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dainah.
H.E welcomed her guest and lauded the council's efforts to protect wild life in Bahrain, the protection of Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) or species listed as protected categories. H.E expressing appreciation of the existing partnership between BACA and the Supreme Council for Environment for the better of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its historical universal achievements.
Dr. bin Dainah, for his part, praised BACA's efforts in the cultural and art fields, tangible and intangible, leading to many outstanding projects being carried out, whether in culture, arts and other domains. Dr. Bin Dainah expressed the Supreme Council for Environment’s constant readiness to cooperate with BACA in cultural and environmental issues and in delivering artistic, literary and intellectual activities that would attract visitors and resident, stressing the importance of boosting cooperation between both sides.
During the meeting a memorandum of understanding was signed during the meeting to impart the legal aspect to future wider joint projects and programmes between Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities and the Supreme Council for Environment.
Worth to mention that BACA national priorities also include the preservation of all different elements of tangible and intangible heritage, especially the natural heritage, as part of a comprehensive strategy that sheds lights on the need for setting the scene for science-policy interface which calls for national assessments of all type of species and ecosystems services and improvement of institutional arrangements for cross-sectoral cooperation. It also include strengthening biodiversity conservation governance through the development of mechanism and design of tools for effective laws implementation; increasing awareness on the value of biodiversity on the basis of communication strategy and awareness programmes.
