Al Khalifiyah Library Workshop on “Glimpses of Traditional Bahraini Architecture”

Al Khalifiyah Library, Muharraq,  hosted on 6 April 2019 a children’s Workshop on “Glimpses of Traditional Bahraini Architecture” by Nada al-Fardan, who gave a simplified explanation of Bahraini architecture, its aspects and features to the little ones.

Al-Fardan first introduced the youth to the features, characteristics and functions of traditional Bahraini architecture, their various aesthetic aspects and the development of architecture over time. Al Fardan also pointed out that the construction materials were simple, and that the houses were designed according to classic Islamic architecture, keeping privacy at the heart of any building erection.

The workshop also included an explanation of these unique architectural characteristics through various hands-on immersive activities, underdone by participants to reflect the traditional Bahraini style and art in architecture.

The workshop is part of Al-Khalifiyah Library’s diversified cultural program, reflecting BACA’s keenness to restore the library’s leading role in raising social awareness about different issues. Indeed, Al-Khalifiyah Library had previously been a lighthouse of culture, not only in Muharraq but also throughout the whole country since its inception 65 years ago.
