H.E Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities President, headed BACA’s delegation to Torino Italy, where a press conference was held, announcing the opening of an art exhibition “ Modern Arts From The Kingdom of Bahrain”, on 12 April 2019 at Albertina Arts Academy, Torino, Italy. The event was attended by the President of the academy, Dr. Paola Garibaldi, Dean of Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin, Professor Salvo Bitonti, Dr. Gabriele Romeo, as well as Bahraini artists exhibiting their artworks, culture, media personalities and art lovers.
Speaking the exhibition “ Modern Arts From The Kingdom of Bahrain”, H.E Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa said “ We are here today to inaugurate a Bahraini artists’ exhibition at one of the oldest Art Academy and listed among the top art institutions in Europe and the world, to continue our journey started with “Sinamadri: Models of the History of the Theater Architecture”, which was hosted by Bahrain national Theater, last year. We hereby highlight the importance of partnership between both cultural institutions in Italy and Bahrain to open wider horizon of mutual friendship, sharing values and dialogue, because it is only through art that we can build civilizational historical dialogue and introduce our achievements to the world”. H.E added saying “ The geographical location has no effect on the identity of art, but instead, it reinforces it, reflecting its special character that shines with pride and appreciation by all”.
During the press conference, Dr. Gabriele Romeo, presented a general critical view of the exhibited art works, making reference to the multitude of schools of thought, and art interpretations reflected by these paintings on show.
H.E Shaikha Hala Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director General at BACA, for her part, expressed his satisfaction and sense pride with the level of cultural cooperation between Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities and Albertina Arts Academy, Torino, Italy, lauding the support of Italian Embassy in Bahrain, which has yielded many fruitful joint cultural programs. H.E argued that this valuable collaboration with the Italian embassy has also contributed to portray Bahrain as an incubator, a citadel of arts, a major player in the world’s cultural and art scene, pointing out to the richness of Bahrain with regard to talented young artists, who have reached a high level artistic maturity, making them capable of exceptional international competitions and achievements.
The press conference was followed by an official opening of the “ Modern Arts From The Kingdom of Bahrain” exhibition, featuring 12 paintings, some of them belong Bahrain National Museum collection and others from private collection. This arts exhibition acts as an innovative space where diverse schools of thought, artists' perceptions and ideological backgrounds were showcased.
Worth to mention that the exhibition will run until 2 June 2019, artworks by Shaikh Rachid Bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, artist Abdul Rahim Sharif , artist Balqees Fakhro, artist Adnan Al-Ahmad, artist Ibrahim Bu Saad, artist Hala Al-Khalifa, artist Ghada Khonji, artist Nader Abbasi, artist Jaafar al Oraibi, Late artist Ahmad Baqer, Late Nasser al-Youssef, Late artist Yaqoob Youssef Qassim.
