H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities received, on 27 February 2019, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dainah, the Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment to discuss common cooperation projects.
H.E welcomed her guest and lauded the council's efforts to protect wild life in Bahrain, the protection of Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) or species listed as protected categories. H.E expressing appreciation of the existing partnership between BACA and the Supreme Council for Environment for the better of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its historical universal achievements.
The meeting also discussed “Studio 244”, a joint initiative between the Supreme Council for the Environment as part of the 14th Edition of the Spring of Culture Festival, which will inaugurated on 19 March 2019 at 7:00pm. The project reflects the joint shared vision that will transform Arad Bay Protected Area and Park into an open space for multiple art activities.
Indeed, “ Studio 244” is a shared vision between the Supreme Council for Environment and the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities to create an open multipurpose space in the heart of Arad Bay Protected Area and Park, Studio 244 is set to be a space for cultural, communal and creative activities serving the visitors of the park. The space consists of a number of units on the waterfront including a multipurpose hall to host exhibitions, talks, workshops and two artists residencies. Studio 244 aims to highlight the significance of the site as a natural reserve and enrich the visitors’ experience through the programs and events offered. In addition, Arad Bay Protected Area and Park is considered a social and cultural extension and escape for inhabitants of the city of Muharraq.
The project “ Studio 244” is the fruit of Mmemorandum of Understanding signed between Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities and the Supreme Council for Environment, in September 2018, imparting the legal aspect to future wider joint projects and programs between both parties.
Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dainah, has, for his part, lauded the strenuous efforts deployed by Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities to preserve the Bahraini cultural components, arguing that the Supreme Council for Environment offers all means at disposal and for enhancing cooperation between both entities. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dainah also wished success for “ Studio 244”, explaining that he will do his best to make Arad Bay Protected Area and Park a better place, offering the visitors a new lovely fascinating cultural destination in the city of Muharraq.
