Honoring artist Abdullah Yousif, Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities held today, on 13 November, the opening of “Abdullah Yousif – A Retrospective” exhibition, with the presence of H.E Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director-General of Culture and Arts at the Authority, Bahraini artist Abdullah Yousif, along with a number of pioneers in art and theatre in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The exhibition, which will continue until 1 January 2020, highlights major milestones in the artist’s career, starting with visual arts and how it lead to the world of theatre, how the life on stage took him to television and how radio came to complete the circle.
The exhibition showcases an array of art experiences by Bahraini artist Abdullah Yousif, who directed many theater shows, such Actors Throwing Stones, Al-Baraha, “The Path of Justice”, children's plays “Homeland of the Bird”. Artistt Abdullah Youssef designed and executed the joint exhibition “Faces”, a major cultural event gathering artist painter, Ibrahim Bu-Saad, the poet Qassem Haddad and the outstanding musician Khaled El Sheikh. He also directed a play of the same title in the same year about the poems of the poet Qassem Haddad. In 1999, he also won the Best Scenography Award for the play “Day of Our Fellows” by Saadallah Wannous, which was presented at the 6th GCC Theater Festival in Muscat. In 2001, he directed the series “Lail Al Banader” by Salah TV Bahrain, as well as “Aweisha” during 2003 and 2004, and recently designed the logo and decor of Bahrain International Music Festival, in 2004.
Multi-disciplined Bahrain artist Abdullah Youssef was born in 1948, is also founding member of Awal Theater and the Bahrain Society of Fine Arts. He is a theater and television director and a plastic artist who has participated in many internal and external exhibitions and won several first prizes. He is also a theater and television producer, commentator and presenter of radio and television programs, serials and dramas in Bahrain and Kuwait.
