Bahrain Summer Festival 2020 presents an array of amazing events and shows for its public this weekend, Friday & Saturday 14 & 15 August, coming from all over the world, such as Indonesia, Brunei Dar al Salam and Egypt. To stay tuned with these events and others, please login on to Bahrain Summer Festival’s You Tube channel @BahrainSummerFestival.
On 14 August, there will be three shows, starting with “Pasang Game” at 6:00 pm, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The movie gives an idea about how to play the centuries-old Pasang board game. Originally played by women during wedding ceremonies, it is now played by men and children in various contexts.
At 7:00 pm, the festival will broadcast “Cendrawasih Dance” held in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Named after the rare birds-of-paradise, Cendrawasih, this Balinese dance is relatively new despite its choreography drawing inspiration from classical dance routines. The dance tells the story of life while imitating the beautiful movements of the Cendrawasih. Although the birds originate from Papua, another island in Indonesia, this special bird holds a deep meaning in Balinese culture.
The day will end its shows on 14 August with “Kampong Ayer”, held in collaboration with the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Kingdom of Bahrain at 8:00 pm. Kampong Ayer is the largest water village in the world, and is the fundamental inspiration of this performance. This performance is a fusion of the Kampong Ayer song, portraying the life of Brunei Malays in the past, while using traditional props to symbolize this water village, along with dance moves reminiscent of their people.
On 15 August, the festival sticks a rendez-vous with its lovers and invites them to attend “El Leila El Kebira”, held in collaboration with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Cairo Opera Ballet Company presents El Leila El Kebira, one of the most famous musical works in the Middle East. Written by the famous poet of colloquial Arabic Salah Jahin and composed by Sayed Mekkawy, it was first broadcasted on Egyptian radio in 1957, now represented as an orches-tra and lyrical dance. The performance depicts the popular festivals accompanying the birthdays of Sufi saints throughout Egypt, which usually extend over a few days and end with a great night ”El Leila El Kebira“ — this event is the culmination of these celebrations.
