Culture Authority Celebrates the 12th Anniversary of the First Bahraini UNESCO World Heritage List Site;  Qala’at Al-Bahrain Site Museum

 

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities celebrated the 12th  anniversary of the Qal’at Al Bahrain Site Museum yesterday, 18 February 2020, in the presence of many key figures leading the cultural movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Needless to say that Qal’at al Bahrain Site Museum Site, stands as one of the most important cultural symbols in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and seeks to maintain the ancient historic features of the site, as well as to document the archaeological periods by preserving the artefacts discovered at the site , “ Qal’at al-Bahrain – Ancient Harbour and Capital of Dilmun” and  the first Bahraini registered UNESCO’s World Heritage List site.

 Speaking for the occasion, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, President of  Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities said “ We are here today to celebrate not only the 12th Anniversary of Qal’at al Bahrain Site Museum Site, an iconic pioneering cultural project that is considered a keystone in Bahrain’s cultural infrastructure, but also we take this opportunity we take to stress the importance of building a fruitful partnership between all public sector entities , on one hand, and  private and civil society institutions on the other, in order to achieve unimaginable patriotic cultural projects”. H.E expressed her thanks and appreciation to Arcapita Financial Group  for its generous support and sponsor for Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum establishment and lauded  Mr. Atef Abdulmalik, the Board Chairman of and Arcapita Chief Executive, for his constant support to the cultural movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

H.E added saying : “ The establishment of this major cultural and historical edifice was the result of a pioneering “Invest in Culture” project, through which we have succeeded to implement and anchor a strong infrastructure projects during ten years, enhancing, thus, the position of Bahrain as a major regional and international cultural production center,  a regional and world cultural tourism destination and a model, a  success story with regard to  sustainable development”.

In addition, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa asserted also that the 12th  anniversary of the Qal’at Al Bahrain Site Museum coincides with a substantial cultural movements and events organized in Bahrain this year, as part of BACA’s 2020 program theme “ Dilmun Land of Density”

During this festive event,  Dr. Hazem Alrawas, artist guitarist player,  performed a magnificent sweet  fusion of genuine Arabic and modern western Spanish guitar styling’s’ music compositions.

Worth to mention that Qal’at al Bahrain Site Museum Site, represents an iconic symbol of the importance of the archaeological site, and seeks to maintain the ancient historic features of the site, as well as to document the archaeological periods by preserving the artefacts discovered at the site. The site museum overlooks the northern coast of the kingdom of Bahrain, with all its beautiful natural landscape, in complete harmony with the marine environment and the area’s green belt.

Qala’at al-Bahrain Site Museum, sponsored by ARCAPITA,  has succeeded, since its inauguration in 2008, to achieve a special partnership with the rest of social categories, raising their awareness about archaeology, history and excavations, through a periodical diverse workshops, lectures,  exhibitions and different events. Bahrain Fort site museum also organizes lectures by most prominent experts in archaeological heritage,  museums and history   from Bahrain and abroad to share their experiences and expertise with the audience eager to learn more about this interesting branch of science and knowledge.
