The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Bahrain, hosted two lectures on 15th and 16th of February 2021, on cultural work in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Culture Authority’s most prominent projects and initiatives.
The first lecture was presented by Ms. Shouq Al-Alawi, Head of Arts and Curator at the Authority, moderated by Dr. Mai Khalfan from the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, whereby Ms. Al-Alawi shed lights on the emergence and development of artistic and craft centers and spaces in Bahrain.
In addition, Ms. Shouq Al-Alawi, highlighted the importance of artistic and craft centers and spaces, their multiple usages and the latest international tendencies endorsed by Bahrain Culture to guarantee the sustainability and continuity of these centers. Ms. Al-Alawi also shed lights on the best ways and means for artists and craftsmen to use these spaces and venues, the essence and nature of administrative procedures and the aesthetic elements and functionality aspects that should accompany them. Ms. Al-Alawi presented an exemplary model vision of these foreseen centers, clearly materialized by Manama Industrial School and Creativity Production Center, inviting the students to take part in the open call competition, titled “ Made in Bahrain”, which focus on designing products and materials inspired by traditional crafts. Based all these elements presented during this lecture, design university department students will creatively inspire and design a comprehensive arts, crafts and exhibitions center.
Architect Noura Al-Sayeh from the Culture Authority, on her part, gave the second lecture, in which she focused on the visitor centers located in the heritage sites supervised by the Authority, in addition to addressing the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities’ vision for the city of Muharraq and future visitor centers in terms of their design and functionality. Indeed, Bahrain Culture Authority has succeeded to establish a number of visitor centers all over Bahrain, such as Pearling Path Visitor Center, The Bu Maher Fort Visitor's Center, Bab al Bahrain Information Center, Al-Khamis Mosque & Visitor Center and Tree of Life Visitor Center.
