h.e shaikha mai bint mohammed al khalifa, president of the bahrain authority for culture and antiquities, welcomed at the bahrain national museum, on 27 july 2021, her excellency dr. mariam al-sadiq al-mahdi, minister of foreign affairs of the republic of sudan during her official visit to the kingdom of bahrain. her excellency toured the national museum and the qal'at al bahrain site museum.
h.e shaikha mai affirmed, during the encounter the deep brotherly historical relations between the kingdom of bahrain and the republic of sudan and the need to deploy strenuous efforts to enhance mutual cultural exchange projects, and h.e’s keenness to strengthen those relations to meet common interests.
during her visit, her excellency dr. mariam al-sadiq al-mahdi toured the main sections of bahrain national museum, starting with burial mounds hall that includes information about dilmun burial mounds, the latest bahraini registered unesco world heritage list site, given its outstanding universal value that testifies to the richness of deeply rooted bahraini and region’s history. the sudanese foreign minister also explored the beauty of all different museum’s permanent acquisitions and exhibitions, such as the precious rare and unique shell or stone dilmun seals, baskets sealed with asphalt, ivory objects, stone jars, and copper weapons inside these burial mounds’ graves, which reflects the richness of bahraini cultural and historical heritage and the 4000 years-old ancient civilizations that have settled in bahrain throughout history.
in addition, her excellency dr. mariam al-sadiq al-mahdi visited the qal’at al-bahrain (bahrain fort) site museum; the first bahraini registered unesco world heritage site, touring the different halls and sections of the museum and was briefed about its main highlighted projects, such as “invest in culture” endeavor. the sudanese foreign minister praised the site museum’s crucial role to safeguard the collections and artefacts discovered at the adjacent qala’at al-bahrain site, as well as its five different historical periods which are arranged chronologically, each within its own separate gallery, storytelling the ancient genuine history of the kingdom of bahrain,
