H.E Receives Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, Cultural infrastructure project in the city discussed

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, received in her office on 30 June 2021, Mr. Ghazi Al-Murbati, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation in order to develop and promote the cultural infrastructure in the city.

During the meeting, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa highlighted the importance of Muharraq’s urban and historical heritage, briefed her guest on the most important plans and activities carried out by Bahrain Culture Authority this year, namely UNESCO World Heritage List, the “Pearling Path. In addition, H.E stressed the importance of sustainable projects in the historical city of Muharraq, named by UNESCO as a Creative City for Design and Architecture, and that there is no doubt that all efforts should be focused on promoting and enhancing urban development heritage of the region, and sustainable development of the local community.

The latest developments, works, design and construction activities carried out at “Pearling Path” site, scheduled to be successful finished by the end of this year, were also discussed by both sides, as well as the rehabilitation of Shaikh Abdullah avenue project.

Mr. Ghazi Al-Murbati, for his part, lauded BACA’s efforts in safeguarding and preserving the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its historical cities, asserting the need to develop further and upgrade Muharraq’s city and its genuine urban aspects and cultural characteristics by implementing pioneering sustainable projects. Al-Mirbati also voiced his constant readiness to cooperate with Bahrain Culture Authority in order to make Muharraq a glorious citadel of historical, cultural and economic endeavors again.
