St Petersburg Ballet “Sleeping Beauty” Show Celebrates the Ninth Anniversary of Bahrain National Theater

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities celebrated the Ninth Anniversary of the of the Bahrain National Theater, on 12 November 2021, organizing an outstanding world-class held a performance by the famous ballet show “Sleeping Beauty” by the Saint-Petersburg State Academic Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre.

The world-class ballet show comes amid increasing rich cultural movement events, offering the public an opportunity to attend a live performance by a gorgeous Russian ballet masterpiece after a whole year stop because the pandemic.

Attending this memorable music theater dance show, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa said: “ We celebrate here today the 9th Anniversary of Bahrain National Theater, a dream that has come true during the celebration of Manama as the Capital of Arab Culture, implementing, thus, the sustainability of the cultural action via a revolutionary infrastructure aimed to develop and enhance it” . H.E rejoined to say: “I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my thanks and deep appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad, King of Bahrain and First Supporter of culture, May Allah Protect and Preserve Him, for his constant keenness to enhance the cultural scene and for generous support to erect this monumental cultural amphitheater icon”.

H.E also said that Bahrain National Theater welcomes the “Sleeping Beauty” ballet coming from the historical city of St. Petersburg, a city that has been always been present in the hearts and minds of culture and art lovers in Bahrain during the recent years, given the cultural diversified exchange programs and events that we have with.

H.E asserted that the Bahrain National Theater will continue to host major art and music events, attracting major international ballet and art shows and embracing prominent cultural events, promoting, hence, Bahrain as a regional and global cultural destination.

The Tchaikovsky “Sleeping Beauty Ballet was held for two days; on 12 & 13 November.

The Sleeping Beauty ballet, made up of Ballet in three acts and a prologue, is based on a timeless fairy tale, and is one of the world's most beloved and captivating ballets, featuring incredible music by Tchaikovsky, gorgeous costumes, lavish decor, and exquisite variations for nearly every character. The Sleeping Beauty ballet is Leonid Yacobson Theatre's first-ever collaboration with Jean-Guillaume Bart, a world-famous French dance teacher and choreographer who performs at the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris. Indeed, this classic tale of love and magic is staged by renowned French choreographer Jean-Guillaume Bart, breathing new life into the fairy ensemble and characters of Aurora and Maleficent in a ballet of three acts. The Sleeping Beauty, with its extraordinary scenery, character actors, ballet troupe, and Tchaikovsky's hypnotic music, enchanted the audience for two nights at the Bahrain National Theatre, in celebration of its ninth anniversary.
The St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre named after Leonid Jacobson is a unique art collective. The theatre is proud of its 50-year history the name of its founder, the outstanding Russian choreographer of the 20th century Leonid Veniaminovich Jacobson.

Officially unveiled on 12 November 2012 during the festivities being held in Manama – the Capital of Arab Culture 2012 – this “Invest in Culture “venture is among the Kingdom’s largest undertakings. The Bahrain National Theater, considered the most important crowning of the Kingdom's efforts to enrich the local culture over the past decade, has hosted many international art shows, opera and music performances.
