As part of academic training trip across the GCC countries’ seaports, The Royal Navy of Oman Vessel Shabab Oman II (Al Sultana) has docked at Mina Salman bin Kingdom of Bahrain, on 16 November 2021. H.E Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director-General for Culture and Arts at Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and Omani Embassy Charge d’Affaires, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Balooshi and other officials welcomed the vessel. A youth delegation featuring 18 trainees and students from the GCC member states, and others representing 11 universities in the world are taking part in the voyage and travelling aboard the Omani vessel.
The cultural tour visited started at Bahrain National Museum, whereby participants immersed in the rich history of the Kingdom of Bahrain dating back to more than six thousand years ago, as featured in its main halls. The future marine sailors and also paid a visit to Bu Maher Fort, the gateway to Bahrain Pearling Path, a site registered on UNESCO World Heritage List and a mirrors the thriving past pearl industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In addition, the participants also paid a visit to Pearling Path Visitor Centre in the City of Muharraq, as well as the iconic Bu Zaboon building, operated by the Shaikh Ibrahim Centre for Culture for Culture and Research.
The Royal Navy of Oman Vessel Shabab Oman II will set its final destination sail at Duabi seaports, ending with participation in the Dubai Expo 2020, bringing with it Oman’s maritime history and present accomplishments. Indeed, Shabab Oman II, sail ship of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), set out on a maritime GCC tour themed “Oman, A Renewed Approach”. The cutting-edge technology new ship Shabab Oman II is destined to be a sail training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman, equipped with the complex techniques required to sail such a giant ship at astonishing speeds, as well as extraordinary feat of international maritime engineering maritime systems and modern communication tools.
The 28-day tour includes an academic program for participants from different countries of the world and a stationary exhibition to be held onboard, learning maritime sciences, sailing techniques, adventure, as well a training academic curriculum proposed by the German University of Technology in Oman (GUTECH). The exhibition will embody a pioneering Omani maritime and naval history, as well as military bands. The vessel docked at many GCC countries to see and discover pioneering sustainable development experiences in these countries, while incarnating Oman's timeless tradition of extending bridges of peace, amity and fraternity among nations of the world.
