Dr. Pierre Lombard sheds the light on the Tylos necropolis at Abu Saiba

The Bahrain National Museum will host tomorrow Wednesday, 8th of September 2021, Dr. Pierre Lombard head of French Archeological mission to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The lecture is organized as part of the museum lectures series dedicated to the latest archeological findings in the Bahrain.

The lecture, which will take place at 5:00 via Zoom, will present the results of the archaeological exploration at Tylos necropolis at Abu Saiba between 2017 and 2021.

The public can register to attend by filling out the form on the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities’ website (www.culture.gov.bh).

Since 2017, the French Archaeological Mission in Bahrain was engaged in a research project at a significant necropolis from the Tylos archaeological phase of the island.

This operation takes place in the Northern sector of Bahrain, at Abu Saiba Mound 1, a site threatened by the growing urban development of this area. The great potential of this site was revealed by an archaeological test conducted by the Bahrain Archaeology Directorate in 1983. It appears as the typical, roughly circular low mound generally constituted by a Tylos cemetery, with a diameter of c. 70m and a height of c. 4 to 5m.

The lectures series will continue with Professor Robert Carter of the British archaeological mission on September 15 with a presentation on the historical monuments along the historicalPearling Path site in Muharraq. On September 22, researcher Mustafa Salman of the BACA team will highlight the results of the excavations in ancient mound located in Mr. Abdullah Juma’s farm in Maqabah. The series will conclude on September 29 with Dr. Masashi Abe of the Japanese archaeological mission, who will talk about the archaeological project being carried out in Wadi Al-Sail.
