The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, as well as fellow artists and friends mourn the loss of an icon of sculpture art, and share memories of the artist, Khalil Al Hashemi, who had clear marks on the Bahraini art scene. In a statement, BACA reiterated his legacy’s memorable achievements, noting that: “The Bahraini art scene has lost a symbol and bright star in art scene in the region Arab Gulf, who had clear contributions to the artistic movement, through his exceptional unique art sculpture works”
Educated in the Fine Arts in Russia, Khalil Al Hashemi was one of Arab Gulf region’s most renowned sculptors. Working predominantly in bronze, stone and wood, this artist’s works are versatile in their material and in the concepts that drive them. The artist’s particular strength is his ability to transform the nonphysical into the physical and reduce ideas to their bare elements, resulting in his abstracted and minimal aesthetic. His sculptures varied, using bronze, stone and wood in his works. The late artist's strength also centered on his ability to transform the intangible into a tangible material reality, and to shorten ideas and return them to their basic components and elements, so his works were abstract, honest and simple
The last artist’s exceptional works also reflected the encounter of prehistoric art with contemporary forms and small, modern surfaces. In addition, artworks by the late artist, Khalil Al Hashemi's were widely exhibited in the Middle East and Europe, and in the Kingdom of Bahrain on official and private venues and galleries.
