Bahrain Culture Authority and Bahrain Training Institute Sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop handicrafts

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and the Bahrain Training Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU), on 20 February 20222, aimed primarily at developing the training aspect of handicrafts and enhancing their practice in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

H.E Shaikha Hala Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director General of Culture and Arts, and Ms. Diana Faisal Sarhan, Director General of the Bahrain Training Institute attended the signing ceremony. The MoU aims to enhance collaborations between both sides, to promote handicrafts and traditional products in the Kingdom, especially through the implementation of specialized training programs in this field.

Speaking for the occasion, H.E Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa said that the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities considers the protection and preservation of the Intangible cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain the top of its priorities. H.E also noted that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding reflects the Authority's endeavor to enhance communication with various stakeholders in order to achieve civilizational and cultural pioneering projects. H.E Shaikha Hala praised the constructive cooperation between the Authority and the Bahrain Training Institute, which is one of the most important training and human development institutions in the Kingdom, expressing her hope that the MoU would achieve its objectives in upgrading the activities and programs of the Al Jasra Training Center.

On her part, Mrs. Diana Faisal Sarhan, Director General of the Bahrain Training Institute, said that the Institute attaches great importance to partnership with government and private institutions, to raise the efficiency of cadres working in various sectors, in a way that advances the Kingdom's economy and contributes to achieving its development goals. In addition, Ms. Sarhan highlighted the Institute's appreciation and pride in this cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, which will certainly help and contribute safeguard and preserve an important aspect of Bahrain's ancient heritage, namely the traditional handicrafts.

Indeed, as per the clauses of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities shall work to involve the Bahrain Training Institute in the programs and projects of the Al Jasra Handicrafts Center, and provide the necessary training in the handicrafts sector. In addition, BACA shall be keen to provide the opportunity for the institute’s trainees to benefit from the field training and job opportunities offered in this field. On the other hand, the institute shall not be reluctant to open its facilities and helpful means for Al Jasra Center training programs, such as the venues, the training halls and skilled members of the training staff with appropriate experience, in addition to providing qualifying certificates to trainees of Al Jasra Center.

It is noteworthy that the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities seeks to enhance the efforts aimed to preserve and preserve Bahraini handicrafts and creative traditional industries through many programs and projects, most notably the ongoing monthly training programs at Al Jasra Crafts Center. In fact, the “Made in Bahrain” brand, which has opened more than one store to display creative products that reflect the cooperation of designers, and artisans in Bahrain to provide products that re-read handicrafts and present them in modern renovated forms that enhance their position and reach the world. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) also stipulates that the two parties cooperate in organizing and holding scientific symposia and joint discussion seminars on topics of common interest.
