Another successful achievement is added to the Directorate of Museums at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), when it was announced that it has won the second prize in the Excellence Award in Museum and Cultural Guidance (for agencies and ministries) of the Arab Cultural Guide Program organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). Indeed, ALECSO has announced the winners’ list out of 160 participants that were nominated between official entries and individual nominations from various Arab countries after they were selected according to specific conditions and criteria. The results of the competition were announced during a press conference organized at the headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in Tunisia.
In a press statement published on the organization's website, the Director-General of ALECSO, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar said that the Cultural Guide Awards Program has created a great movement in Arab museums. The ALECSO Director-General added that the program has indeed created open-ended opportunities for cultural guides to launch several pioneering initiatives, noting that the program is one of the most important programs within the activities of the ''Extraordinary Ambassador for Culture for ALECSO”. Therefore, for the “Excellence Award in Museum and Cultural Guidance (for agencies and ministries), the First prize went to the Ministry of Culture and Youth of the United Arab Emirates, Heritage and Arts Sector, Cultural Heritage Department, while the Qatar Museums Authority ranked Third.
Worth to mention that the Cultural Guidance Program was initiated by ALECSO, in partnership with the ''Extraordinary Ambassador for Culture for ALECSO”, namely H.E Shaikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, Ambassador for Culture for ALECSO, in March 2022 and it will continue until December 2022, in cooperation with the participation of the Arab Organization of Museums (ICOM). The program targets cultural guides in Arab museums, professionals, university students, and NGOs active in the field of guidance Cultural in museums, archaeological sites and landmarks.
The program, in which a number of Arab countries participated, aims to encourage the Arab youth to take interest in their heritage, preserve and promote it, and prepare a distinctive cultural guide through qualifying and providing the youth with integrated experiences and qualifications. It keeps pace with the needs of museum visitors and cultural and historical sites, and is in line with the standards of international cultural guidance. The program also creates a strong and unique relationship between museums and families during and after the program period. The Arab Cultural Guide Program, with its motto “History is Our Gateway to the Future” has overseen many interactive and promotional programs, activities and competitions meant for the Arab cultural guides, museums and archaeological sites, which will continue for the rest of this year.
