The Pearling Path Visitors Centre hosted the first dinner of the “Muharraq Supper Club”, on 18 February 2023, which presented Bahraini food tasting experience to the local audience.
The audience were presented with a set menu by Chef Yousif Qamber, inspired by Muharraq Suq and its traditional rich flavours, which reflect the cultural diversity in old Muharraq and its place as a worldwide trading center. Through an immersive culinary experience at the Pearling Path Visitors Centre, within World Heritage Site “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy”, the attendees travelled through a culinary journey discovering the stories behind Bahraini food through dishes derived from the local environment, as well as the influence of neighboring regions, trade, and cultural ties throughout history. Inspired by the Muharraq market, which includes between its corridors and alleys popular shops and cafes that offer rich flavors that reflect the cultural diversity in the ancient city of Muharraq and its position as a center for commercial movement and exchange of goods from around the world.
Indeed, every dish prepared by the talented Chef Yousif Qambar epitomized story from the local environment and what distinguishes Bahraini cuisine in terms of flavors, dishes and ingredients.
