The Bahrain National Theater hosted, on 19 February 2023, a musical educational performance by the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra led by Maestro Dr. Mubarak Najem, in the first initiative of its kind to be held between the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Ministry of Education and the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra. The rehearsals presented were attended by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Ms. Kifaya Habib Ahmed Al-Anzoor, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Services at the Ministry of Education, along with a number of directors and employees of the Culture Authority and the Ministry of Education. Nearly 900 male and female students from 25 public and private schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain also attended the event.
Before the start of the concert show, Dr. Mubarak Najem welcomed the audience attending the event, and praised the role of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and the Ministry of Education in the success of this civilizational initiative, which aims to introduce the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra and enrich the musical culture among younger generations.
During the ceremony, the orchestra, led by Dr. Najem, performed an amazing music concert presentation that included explanations and clarifications for the students about the protocol followed inside the theater before and during the start of the musical performances, regarding the necessity of adhering to the ethics of the place and the method of public response to the orchestra's playing. In addition, the concert educational show shed light was shed on the types of instruments that make up the orchestra and the role of each group of instruments, through a solo performance of a group of the orchestral musical genres that make up the orchestra. The students were introduced, in a simplified, interactive way, to the types of musical instruments and the different sounds they produce, including percussion instruments, string instruments, wind instruments, percussions and brass instruments.
Worth to mention that Dr Mubarak Najem, who is one of the most important composers and conductors in Bahrain, founded the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra in March 2022. Maestro Dr. Mubarak Najem, Commander of the Police Orchestra has also founded the Bahrain Music Institute. The orchestra currently includes more than 100 musicians and choirs.
This project enjoys the support of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s continuous sponsorship of arts and culture. Indeed, the Bahraini government has always been keen to champion the safeguard of music and intangible cultural heritage, given its role in development of nations, and how music can give a creative conscience, improving public taste. This endeavor has always been carried out by the official entities to reflect a beautiful image of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a citadel of culture and deeply-rooted civilizations, a platform that favors and attracts all forms of cultural creativity.
