Bahrain Culture Authority celebrates the 15th Anniversary of Qala’at al-Bahrain Site Museum Opening

Every year, on 18 February, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities schedules multicultural events in celebration a major monumental achievement, namely Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum. Hence, the 15th Anniversary of the opening of the Qal'at al-Bahrain Site Museum, which is the first of the Kingdom of Bahrain's sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was hailed as a happy diverse cultural programme day.

Commenting on this happy occasion, H.E Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said that the Qal'at al-Bahrain Site Museum is an important cultural edifice for its role in safeguarding and preserving artifacts items that reflect the importance of the site next to it. Indeed, it is an open museum book that tells us the story of the Dilmun civilization that flourished in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as its capital, about four thousand years ago. In addition, H.E Shaikha Khalifa has pointed out that celebrating this occasion reaffirms the importance of the cultural heritage and human history of Bahrain in upgrading its cultural infrastructure, praising the support of the Arcapita banking Group for the establishment of the museum, which is evidence of the interest of all parties in the culture and civilization of the Kingdom.

In fact, BACA’s festive program to celebrate the anniversary of the Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum’s launch on 18 February 2023 featured two joyful events and activities. The first was held at 9:00 am and was dedicated to children, namely a tour of the museum and the site of Bahrain Fort, accompanied by a workshop on excavation and restoration of artifacts. At 7:00 pm, the museum hosted a musical evening performed by artist Mohammed Asiri Music Band.

The Qal'at al-Bahrain site museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in the Kingdom, as it works to preserve and display many archaeological discoveries related to the site "Qal'at al-Bahrain: the Capital of Dilmun and the Ancient port", which is the first Bahraini site to be registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. Indeed, museum bears witness to the importance of the archaeological site next to it, and provides protection for its historical features, as well as documents the archaeological eras that shaped the geography and formation of the region.
