The fourth week of “From the Post” returned, on 25 February 2023, with traditional clothing in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is considered among the most important components of cultural heritage. The event offered an enriching experience for all visitors as they revisit traditional clothing in Bahrain from Manama’s rich history of dresses and fabrics. The “From the Post” event started from the Manama Post Museum opposite Bab Al Bahrain, shedding light on “fashion” and its connection to the popular heritage in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In addition, the Dot Café, which is hosted by Manama Post, continues to serve various types of coffee to its visitors on a daily basis from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and remains open on Saturdays until 9 pm (closed on Fridays). Worth mentioning, that certain activities of the “From the Post” program require prior registration. All information about these events and registration can be obtained through the website of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities www.culture.gov.bh
Moreover, Saturday amazing activities shed light on traditional and popular costumes that spread in the old Manama market, as these costumes reflect the way they are woven and sewn, details, colors, and style of dress, the customs and traditions of Bahrainis in dress and adornment. In addition, these folk costumes also show aspects related to cultures and civilizations that have influenced local culture with regard to customs and traditions followed in the clothes of popular and national occasions.
This week morning program for the “From the Post” event featured a tour at 9:00 am in the textile market, where there are shops selling and tailoring traditional clothes for men and women, and a workshop for designing dolls and traditional costumes for children at 10:00 am.
Starting at 4:00 pm, the evening program kicked off with two walk trips inside Manama, the first dedicated to photography enthusiasts, where their destination will be the inner streets of the textile and sewing market with photographer Isaac Madan, while the second round was dedicated for cycling lovers in cooperation with Kashta Tours (suitable for ages 15 years and over). At 6:30 pm, a panel discussion was held to discuss the future of the local fashion industry at the Postal Office Museum. Finally, Sami Al-Maloud Band concluded the activities of the fourth week of the “From the Post” event with a performance in front of the Bab Al-Bahrain building at 7:30 pm.
