Solo Exhibition Opening “White Crystals in the Dark” by Artist Jamal Abdul Rahim t the Art Center
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities will host a solo exhibition-opening event, today, 10 October 2023, at the Art Center at 7:00 pm, by artist Jamal Abdul Rahim, entitled “White Crystals in the Dark”.
Indeed, the exhibition includes a group of artistic paintings that deal with a number of exceptional events and circumstances that swept the world and cast their shadows on the movement of life and people. Moreover, amidst major events and disasters, this collection started with a single painting filled with intense black shapes, expressing my emotions about the simultaneous threat of the Covid pandemic. The exhibition continues until October 24 and welcomes its visitors daily from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Born in the city of Muharraq, and regarded as one of Bahrain’s most established and highly regarded contemporary artists, Abdul Rahim’s work has been shown across the Middle East in more than 16 Arab and international exhibitions. Simplistic sun imagery lies alongside squirrels and waves which overlay photo etchings. Jamal’s modern touch, which is often applied in a seemingly random fashion, is only found in the most confident of artists.
Jamal’s works have been sold at auction. Jamal is an artist of many facets. Some of his work has a curiously Warholesque quality. He might take a well-known figure or image, for instance the Mona Lisa, and then imbue it with color, texture (through the use of oils) and often symbols of the Middle Eastern culture (a veil). Others may cite Miro as a prevailing influence. Black and white canvasses are dashed, splashed or stroked with color. Artist Jamala Abdul Rahim has participated in many local, Arab and international art exhibitions, and during his artistic career he won many awards, including: an Appreciation award at the Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition in 2007, the “Kuwait Finance House” award in Bahrain in 2014, and others.
