The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the academic and literary critic specialist Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Mahadin. The Deceased, who is considered one of the most prominent cadres that the education sector has known in the Kingdom since 1960s, has contributed brilliantly to development of excellent educational system of Al-Hidayah Al-Khalifiya’s school, while teaching there, and mentoring a number of the Kingdom’s most prominent intellectuals.
The deceased moved to Bahrain in 1960 to work as a teacher for more than three decades at Al-Hidaya Al-Khalifiyah School. At the same time, he completed his scientific career. He obtained a diploma in Islamic studies from the Institute of Islamic Studies in Cairo, then a master’s degree from Cairo University in 1976, and a master’s degree in arts from the University of Bahrain in 1997, until he completed his postgraduate studies (doctorate) from the Institute of Arab Studies in Cairo in 2001. After that, he became an assistant professor at the University of Bahrain since 2001, and at the same time, he worked as a lecturer in the primary teachers’ diploma. He also participated in writing several Arabic language books for the credit hour system. The deceased also assumed administrative duties, most notably Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Bahrain from 2002 to 2004. He was also appointed as a media expert for the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council at the Ministry of Education in 2007.
The late author published many essays and books that have influenced the library in Bahrain and abroad, including “Guidance between 1919-1948”, “Seeing the Shadow in 1983”, “Windows” in 1985. Moreover, he wrote “Men and Horizons” in 1989, “Papers from Public Education Notebooks” in 1995, “Great Men Were Here” in 1995, and the “Dialectic of Time and Place in the Gulf Novel” in 1995 and other publications.
The deceased also had cultural participations and contributions, including his participation in the Muhammad Al-Majid Forum in 1987, his participation in the book Culture in Bahrain in Thirty Years in 1992, the Tarfa Bin Al-Abd Forum in 1998, the Arab Poetry Forum in the Gulf in 1997, the Al-Qurain Forum in 1998, and the Abdullah Al-Zayed Literary Forum – year. 1998 and participation in the book Bahrain and the General Cultural Notice 1997 and others, in addition to various contributions represented in lectures, seminars and judging competitions at the level of Bahrain and abroad.
In addition, the deceased received many honorary certificates, as he received the “Distinguished Teacher” medal from the late Emir, the late Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, May Allah Bless his Soul. In addition, he received the “Long Service” medal, as well as the National Pioneers of Appreciation Certificate in 1997, and the Efficiency Medal from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, May Allah Protect Him. Al-Mahadin also received the World Logo Day shield in 2019.
