The international Council of Museums (ICOM) established the International Museum Day in 1977 became a worldwide event held annually on and around the 18th of May. IMD is celebrated to raise awareness about the fact that “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples”.
