One of the oldest crafts in Bahrain, basket weaving has been passed down through generations. These crafts spread in areas where palm trees are abundant, such as the villages in the north of Bahrain, the villages of the western coast, and the villages north of Muharraq Island, but widely practiced in Karbabad.
Palm tree farms are of great importance to the agricultural community in Bahrain, as Bahrain was known in the past as the country of a million palm trees. People fell in love with this blessed tree, which resulted in the invention of methods, means and practices aimed at preserving, protecting and benefiting from it.
The weaving of the palm tree fronds and shredded branches results in the make of many household items that are used by Bahraini families.
In 2022, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities completed the restoration works of this house and it now hosts the artisans still practicing basket weaving.
