Every year the world celebrates the world celebrates International Museum Day, on 18 May, which is the day set by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977 with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of museums in the development of societies, as they are the living memory of peoples. In addition, the event provides an opportunity for museum professionals to communicate with the public and alert them to the challenges facing museums, which are considered - according to the Council’s definition of museums – “non-profit institutions in the service and development of society.”

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities celebrates the International Museum Day by presenting a variety of cultural events held at the Bahrain National Museum and Qala’at Al Bahrain Site Museum. Indeed, both venues welcome visitors without entry fees during the period from 18-20 May 2023, while the Darseen Café at the Bahrain National Museum offers a 15% discount on the menu during the same period.
